Queen of charades: A profile of JAWS 2's Gigi Vorgan

Hello, Islanders,

She was the unrequited love of young Timmy in JAWS 2.  A member of the tribe in Caveman.  Today she is an accomplished author with more than a dozen best selling books to her credit.  She was also my high school crush.  Say hello to Gigi Vorgan.

California born, Gigi made her film debut in Dalton Trumbo’s Johnny Got His Gun at the age of 13.  In 1978 she took to the water as Brooke in JAWS 2.  The next year found her appearing opposite George C. Scott and Peter Boyle in Paul Schrader’s gritty film Hardcore.  She also co-starred with fellow JAWS 2 alum Cindy Grover in the television series “Married: the First Year.”

She spent the decade of the 80s working steadily in both film (Caveman, Summer School, Children of a Lesser God, Rainman, Red Heat) and television (“Fame,” “Alfred Hitchcock Presents” and “Knots Landing,” as well as made for television films like “Splendor in the Grass” and “Marion Rose White.”

In 1990 she went behind the camera, beginning a second career as a script writer, penning episodes of such shows as “Full House” and “Rebel Highway” as well as the television film “Confessions of Sorority Girls.”

Along with her husband, renowned Professor of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences Dr. Gary Small, she has co-authored numerous books that deal with brain health.  Like many of their books, their most recent, “The Memory Bible” was a New York Times Best Seller.
