New Deep Water poster pays homage to JAWS
Think shark films and top of the filmic food chain is always JAWS, so it’s perhaps no surprise that newer shark films want to create some of that association, and what better way to do that than with the poster.
One of the latest to “c’mon in the water” is Deep Water, which has its cinematic shark expectations set higher than most, with it being helmed by the director of Deep Blue Sea (1999), Renny Harlin.
A newly released poster for the film, which surfaces in May, has been designed with a clear nod - those proportions are correct – the artwork featuring a menacing shark rising from the depths, its jaws open wide beneath an unsuspecting swimmer. Ring any dinner bells?
It’s far from the first shark film to doff its hat – that’s like a shark’s fin – to that of the iconic Roger Kastal designed JAWS poster, we looked back at some others here: NEW SHARK MOVIE PROMO ECHOES CLASSIC JAWS POSTER — The Daily Jaws
Deep Water stars Aaron Eckhart and Sir Ben Kingsley as passenger plane pilots who have to ditch their plane in the sea after a serious incident in the air. Surviving the crash and the sinking plane is quite literally the surface of their troubles, as beneath it they have to contend with circling sharks, attracted by the impact, commotion, fuel and blood in the water.
One thing is for certain, it won’t be the last! What do you think to this latest poster and do you think Deep Water will equal Deep Blue Sea? Let us know in the comments.
And this isn’t the first time Renny Harlin has paid homage to JAWS, here’s what he did in Deep Blue Sea: Deep Blue Sea And Jaws: Bonded By Blood — The Daily Jaws
