Interview with Laurent Bouzereau | Director of first ever 'JAWS' making-of documentary

Laurent Bouzereau, a prominent figure in the realm of documentary filmmaking, has established himself as a director with a notable portfolio of projects. At the forefront of his recent endeavors is his role as the director of an upcoming event documentary centered around the legendary composer John Williams. This highly anticipated documentary is a collaborative effort involving renowned production entities such as Amblin Documentaries, Imagine Documentaries, and Nedland Media.

Bouzereau's directorial prowess is evident in his recent films, including "Timeless Heroes: Indiana Jones & Harrison Ford," a production for Lucasfilm and Disney+. Additionally, he helmed the HBO feature-length documentary titled "Mama's Boy," an adaptation of the best-selling memoir by Dustin Lance Black. Produced in collaboration with LD Entertainment, Amblin Television, Playtone, and Nedland Media, the documentary had the honor of opening the prestigious 2022 NewFest - LGBTQ+ Film and Media festival.

Further cementing his position as a prolific director, Bouzereau took the helm of "Natalie Wood: What Remains Behind" for HBO and Amblin Television. The documentary, selected for the 2020 Sundance Film Festival and presented in the Documentary Premiere selection, showcases his ability to delve into compelling narratives with depth and sensitivity.

One of Bouzereau's notable achievements is his direction and co-production of the acclaimed Netflix series "Five Came Back." Executive produced by the legendary Steven Spielberg and Amblin Television, the series is based on the best-selling book by Mark Harris and features an Emmy-winning narration by the iconic Meryl Streep. Boasting a stellar lineup of contributors, including Francis Ford Coppola, Guillermo del Toro, Paul Greengrass, Lawrence Kasdan, and Steven Spielberg himself, the documentary offers a captivating exploration of the impact of World War II on cinema.

Born and raised in a suburb of Paris, France, Bouzereau's journey into the world of filmmaking began in New York as a freelance journalist and author. His career trajectory included stints in publicity and promotion at the independent distribution company Spectrafilm, followed by roles at Bette Midler's production company, All Girl Productions. Notably, Bouzereau made a mark in home entertainment with his audio commentary for the Criterion Collection's LaserDisc release of "Carrie" in 1991.

In subsequent years, Bouzereau's career evolved as he produced a series of retrospective documentaries for LaserDisc, delving into the making of iconic films such as "Jaws," "Scarface," "E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial," "Psycho," and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." His dedication to documenting the filmmaking process extended to on-set coverage for "A.I. Artificial Intelligence" in 2002, showcasing his commitment to preserving the legacy of cinematic masterpieces.
