Gary Springer: JAWS 2 45th anniversary interview
JAWS 2 actor Gary Springer, who played Andy, takes some time out from shouting at Sean Brody to have an exclusive interview with The Daily Jaws about his memories of JAWS 2, which was released in 1978.
Springer, who had been in Dog Day Afternoon and worked behind the scenes on Taxi Driver, was actually talking to us from Amity Island (Martha’s Vineyard) and spoke about how he saw the original JAWS in New York, and the lasting impact it had on him.
Film has always been in his blood as his dad did the PR for RKO Pictures and the young Springer even counted Marylyn Monroe as one of his babysitters!
Andy tells us how he ended up getting the part in the JAWS sequel thanks to the film’s original director John D Hancock – and keeping the role in the cast reshuffle, he also talks about the continued camaraderie of the cast, working with Roy Scheider and how Springer struck up a friendship with the Chief Brody actor whilst living in New York.
Of JAWS 2, Gary said: “That movie for me…was a 10 or 11 month project, which was really wonderful, because I was with great people making a sequel to one of the greatest movies of all time.”
