Deep Blue Jaws
Renny Harlin’s 1999 shark-thriller proudly wears its Jaws colours on its sleeve, as each shark (spoiler alert) dies in the same way and order as those in the first three Jaws films.
There’s also a Louisiana numberplate from a tiger shark, which is exactly the same as that featured in Jaws. Check out our retrospective review of the film, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, here: Deep Blue Sea At 20
And let’s not forget that Deep Blue Sea star, Thomas Jane, headlined as The Punisher with Chief Brody himself, Roy Scheider, as his dad at the start of the film.
But, what if both battled sharks together? That’s the premise of this wonderful Deep Blue Sea and Jaws mash-up that sees the ending of the two films meld for our viewing pleasure.
Rather than LL Cool J saving the day, we get an effortlessly added Chief Brody on top of the sinking Orca. Film fans will know how both play out, but it’s nice to see them mashed together.
It’s hard not to view it and not be smiling like a son-of-a-bitch afterwards. Thankfully we don’t get Roy rapping over the end titles as well though.
