De-JAWS-vu: 'The Shark Is Broken' broadway cast recreate iconic 1975 promo shot
You can catch The Shark Is Broken from 25th July 2023 at the Golden Theater, New York, NYC.
Quint, Hooper and Brody stood within the jaws of a great white shark.
It's the film in a nutshell and one of the most famous and iconic promotional shots for Steven Spielberg's JAWS, when it was released in 1975.
Now that publicity shot has been recreated, after almost 50 years, to promote The Shark Is Broken, the Broadway show about the making - and almost unmaking - of JAWS.
Stood in exactly the same spots as Robert Shaw, Roy Scheider and Richard Dreyfuss, we now have Ian Shaw, Colin Donnell and Alex Brightman. Quint…we mean squint, and it could almost be the very same image, it is certainly a head, tail, a whole damn thing turner.
And the costumes, lightning and likenesses are uncanny. Particularly Ian, but then the actor and co-writer of the play, written with Joseph Nixon, is the son of Robert Shaw.
That's not his only link with the classic shark thriller, as Ian even visited the set when he was a child and got to meet Bruce the shark out of the water.
Dean Newman, Head of Content for The Daily Jaws, the world's number one JAWS fan site, said: "It just shows how much love and attention has gone into the show. The icing on the cake is when you see and hear them bring their characters to life in a stunning recreation of Quint's boat, the Orca.
"Jaws will drop when people see it, it's like time travelling to Martha's Vineyard in 1974 when the film was being shot. The Shark Is Broken is the biggest thing to happen to JAWS since the film was released, it is a hugely important part of the Jaws legacy and is a must-see for any fan of the film."
Film fan, or just love great theatre, you can hitch a ride on the Orca at the Golden Theater until November 19, 2023.
