RICHARD DREYFUSS ON DOUBTING JAWS
JAWS is not only a masterpiece, but was the first movie to make $100 million (it did this in just 38 days). Not everyone saw this massive success coming. One of those people being Jaws star Richard Dreyfuss!
Initially turning down the now iconic role of young ichthyologist Matt Hooper, Dreyfuss felt Jaws was a film he’d rather watch than shoot as it was going to be a ‘bitch’ to shoot. However, upon seeing his own performance in The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, he called Jaws director and friend Steven Spielberg and ‘begged’ for the part. The rest as they say is history... or should that be Jawstory?
In this interview with Yahoo Entertainment's Kevin Polowy, Richard talks about what happened behind the scenes of his most memorable films including 'Jaws,' 'American Graffiti,' 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' and also talks about a tense moment with Bill Murray.
