Sharknasium: Comedy Event In Aid Of The Shark Trust

London-based scuba-diving club Clidive has come up with a fun new way of raising money for its favourite underwater species. On Wednesday night, aptly-named City pub The Trinity Bell will play host to ‘Sharknasium’ – a brain-teasing mix of improvised comedy, fun facts and positive shark PR, with all the proceeds going to UK charity the Shark Trust.

Clidive member, comedy fan and compere for the evening Nick Allibone said:

‘Scuba divers generally love sharks. We get very excited when we see them in their natural habitat – we’re the ones who run INTO the water when somebody shouts ‘shark’! We’re also very aware of just how misunderstood they are and how much they are under threat.

‘We’ve organised talks by the Shark Trust before, but, with us, they’re talking to the converted. We wanted to do something a bit different this time and hopefully attract people who don’t yet feel as positive about sharks as we do.

Personally I’m doing it for my love of sharks and to improve their reputation, one bite at a time.’

Nick has called in his contacts in the comedy world to showcase three exciting acts from the buzzing London improv comedy scene. On the more serious side, Paul Cox, Managing Director of the Shark Trust, will bring the audience up to date with the latest work to protect and promote these beautiful creatures.

‘One of the challenges of shark conservation is reaching out and inspiring more people to get involved with our cause. Sharknasium is something different and a great way to look at sharks in a different light.’
— Paul Cox, Managing Director The Shark Trust

Contrary to popular belief, sharks do occur around the coasts of Britain. In fact we have over 40 species! Including some of the fastest, rarest, largest and most highly migratory in the world!

The money will certainly be going to a good cause. The Trust works tirelessly in the UK and across the world to help preserve shark habitats, protect endangered species and to eradicate overfishing.

Contrary to popular belief, Britain also sees its fair share of sharks, with over 40 species, including some of the fastest, rarest, largest and most migratory in the world!

The Shark Trust thrives on the active engagement of its members and supporters. If you want to get involved and help create positive change for sharks, you can check out www.sharktrust.org/get-involved.
