Netflix Ghost Story Features Some Familiar Jaws Character Names
The Haunting of Bly Manor has just opened its doors on Netflix. Brought to the screen by Mike Flanagan, it is a spiritual follow up to his 2018 haunted house hit, The Haunting of Hill House.
That was based on the work of Shirley Jackson, this year's offering is based on the work of Henry James, with Bly Manor taken directly for the pages of The Turn of the Screw by Henry James.
This makes the 35th adaptation of that novella, first published in 1898. From a Jaws point of view the original novella may be of interest as there is a character called Quint - Peter Quint to be exact - in it and in the TV series. There is also a child at boarding school called Hooper. Alas, there is no floating spectral Ben Gardner's head.
There is a Steven Spielberg link though, as both series feature Elliott from E.T. actor, Henry Thomas. He's no stranger to houses with a story or two as he played a young Norman Bates in Psycho IV: The Beginning (1990).
