John Williams is the oldest ever Oscar nominee

The composer of JAWS, Star Wars, Jurassic Park and Harry Potter, John Williams, is the oldest ever Oscar nominee.

He was nominated at the age of 90, having since turned 91, and being nominated at 90 sees him surpass Director Agnès Varda, who was 'only' 89 when she was nominated in 2018.

Williams is nominated for the film The Fabelmans, his latest in a long line of collaborations with Steven Spielberg.

And that nomination is his 53rd, which isn't a bad record for this vicinity, but he still has some catching up to do to rival Walt Disney's 59. Seven more JAWS scores should settle it.

Williams does already hold the record for the most Oscar nominations of any living person, and long may that record continue.

Of those 53 nominations, five have resulted in Oscar wins. These were for Fiddler on the Roof (score adaptation), JAWS, Stars Wars, E.T. - The Extra Terrestrial, and Schindler's List.

Astonishingly that last Oscar was won in 1994, so after 29 years without an Oscar win, will 2023 mean John Williams is gonna need a bigger Academy Award shelf?
