'The Shark Is Broken': The perfect show in the perfect place

This production is mounted in the John Golden Theater, one of the Shubert Alley Venues.  It felt like an intimate and personal space. This was absolutely perfect for this size show.

The cast of Alex Brightman , Colin Donnell and Ian Shaw (Robert Shaw’s son and  author ) were a force to behold!

Ian wrote the script as an homage to his dad who sadly passed away when Ian was 8 years old. He channeled every nuance of his dad in his immaculate performance. Of course it certainly helps that his resemblance is remarkable! He evokes total Joy, laughter and tears! His writing and his delivery are brilliant!

Colin Donnel delivers us memories of Roy Sheider’s flawless hero! He packs a huge surprise for the audience in the midst of his performance that takes us to the reason Roy was such a recognized actor!! He encompasses the quiet passion of Mr Scheider to a tee. He shows us the man’s quiet calm and brings him to his boiling point!

Now let’s talk about Alex Brightman!!

Genius! I’m not slighting the others but, Alex nailed Richard Dryfuss to the enth degree!!! You absolutely believed you were watching Mr Dreyfuss! Ian had a leg up because of genetics, yes he was perfect, but Alex became Richard in depth!  I had a crush on Richard for years and Alex reminded me of that!!❤️❤️ His timing, his mannerisms, his movements were spot on!

Tious and boring but this director was able to use every inch of that set to keep the ebb and flow movhe script is flawless and captivated us every moment. The direction of the characters moving around a small space, with a table and minimal props, could have been teding as smoothly as the water background! (Which, by the way, was also extremely effective).
