MOVE OVER PIPIT, THERE'S A NEW DOG IN TOWN... SHARKDOG

Sharkdog is half shark, half dog and all appetite and swims onto Netflix from September.

Sharkdog follows 10 year old Max and his best friend Sharkdog, who doesn't quite realise his own strength, stealth and general um sharkiness.

So, naturally Sharkdog often leaves a trail of utter chaos in his wake. But, like all good half-dogs, he's Max's BFF and Max is his. And no doubt his bark is much worse than his bite radius.

Liam Mitchell, from Carmel in Ohio, is the voice of Max.

"I love that Max is kind of really like me,” Mitchell said. “He has a love for animals and seems to always be getting himself out of tricky situations. Not only will kids love the show, adults will, too. They are seven-minute shorts so they can captivate the attention of the littlest viewers, but the adventures that Max and Sharkdog have are fun for adults, too.”

As well as captivating the attention of small viewers it is something that Dean Newman, Head of Content at The Daily Jaws, thinks makes a powerful positive point to young minds about sharks.

He said: "It's great that young children are getting this sort of exposure to sharks at such a young age, showing them that they aren't marauding killers waiting to strike at humans as soon as they enter the water. It's just nice to see that their first exposure isn't about fearing these amazing creatures.

"And if we are to save sharks from extinction, cartoons like this are an important introduction to the next generation of Matt Hoopers."

Not that Sharkdog is the first animated shark character to make an impact.

Baby Shark

It's the song that needs little introduction, which has spawned its own TV show and toy line. That video of the song has been viewed an astonishing nine billion times, which makes it the most viewed YouTube video of all time!

Sharky & George

Sharky & George is set in the underwater city of Seacago, and the titular heroes are two fish private detectives who run their own agency. Sharky is pink shark with a huge nose, and wears a fedora hat.

Jabberjaw

What's not not love about a shark that plays the drums? Jabberjaw, which rode the wave of Jawsmania was a hybrid of Josie and the Pussycats meets the crime-fighting antics of Scooby-Doo.

He's a talking great white shark who walks upright, and sounded like Curly from The Three Stooges.

Street Sharks

Think of this cartoon, which was produced to sell a line of action figures, as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but with sharks.

A group of teens are turned into mutant sharks - each character is a different shark and has a unique set of abilities. Together, they must protect the earth from the evil Dr Paradigm.
