Happy Birthday 'Bring Back Jaws'

Somewhere in the depths of the Twitterverse, there is an account that has been posting the same image of the Jaws Ride every day - and today is marks it’s first year in it’s campaign to Bring Back Jaws. The Daily Jaws caught up with the account to learn more…..

My name is BringBackJaws and I am from Central Florida. I've been tweeting the same image of Jaws: The Ride at @UniversalORL for a year now because I really, really, really miss the Jaws ride.

I've been a Jaws fan for as long as I can remember. I consider it to be the best film ever made. It's a perfect movie. And it was a perfect ride, too.

A lot of people have followed the account and seem to enjoy what I've been doing. It's nice to see how many other people miss the ride and want it back as much as I do. Other people haven't had as much of a positive reaction to the account, namely Harry Potter fans who haven't appreciated my attacks against the Harry Potter-themed attraction that replaced Jaws, Escape from Gringott's.

While Jaws is still part of the Studio Tour in California and the ride still exists in Japan, I really think the Florida park needs a Jaws attraction back. It's such an iconic Universal Studios movie and it just feels wrong for it to not have representation within the park in the form of a ride anymore. Also I don't speak Japanese, so I'd kind of like to have the ride back here in the United States too.

@BringBackJaws has been posting the same photo of the Jaws Ride for exactly one year today.

I've been a Universal pass-holder for most of my life, so I was extremely lucky to have experienced the Jaws ride countless times before it was closed down. I'm not sure exactly how old I was the first time I rode it, but I have a really great memory of being terrified riding it at night once when I was really little and everything else was so big. Jaws was always something we had to do every time we went to the parks and ever since it left it just feels like something's missing from every visit. It was a perfect theme park attraction. It had a good storyline, amazing special effects and animatronics, a unique sense of humor, and the human element of the skippers added so much more to the ride than a 3D screen ever will.

The time is right for the return of the Jaws ride because Universal Studios Florida has lost its way. With the over-reliance on screens and the constant addition of Harry Potter attractions, Universal is losing its identity. A lot of people just see Universal as "the Harry Potter park" now, which is disappointing because Universal used to have such a great, unique personality as a celebration of movies and filmmaking. But that's almost completely gone now. It's sad.

My favorite character is definitely Captain Quint. Robert Shaw's performance is amazing.

It's hard to pick just one favorite scene, because every scene is iconic, but I'll narrow it down to two. Quint's USS Indianapolis monologue is the first. It's perfectly acted and adds a lot of depth to Quint's character. The second is the absolute chaos after the ORCA starts sinking. It keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time.

I think Jaws 2 is okay. It's kind of just "Jaws again" but a lot worse. Jaws 3 has laughably bad 3D effects that almost make it worth watching, but everything else in the movie is just kind of boring. The scene with the people in the tube is kind of a neat idea though. And then there's Jaws: The Revenge, which is just completely insane. Sharks just really have it out for the Brody family for some reason. The best part probably has to be Ellen Brody having flashbacks to events from the first film that she wasn't there to witness though.
