The movie, according to the official synopsis, presents a "high-concept blend of disaster and survival genres," bringing together characters from diverse backgrounds thrust into an unexpected alliance after their plane crashes into the Pacific Ocean. The distressed airliner finds itself precariously positioned near the edge of a bottomless ravine, trapping surviving passengers and crew in an air pocket. As their oxygen supply rapidly depletes, a harrowing battle for survival unfolds, with threats closing in from every direction.
Dubbed "Sharks on a Plane," the film, as hinted in the trailer, centers on a select group of survivors grappling with the aftermath of the ocean crash. However, their ordeal takes a drastic turn when menacing sharks become aware of the stranded plane. Despite being submerged, the movie features shark attacks within the confines of the aircraft, drawing inevitable comparisons to the memorable horror-comedy "Snakes on a Plane," starring Samuel L. Jackson.
Directed by Claudio Fah, known for his work on "Hollow Man 2" and "Sniper: Ultimate Kill," "No Way Up" features a screenplay crafted by Andy Mayson. The cast includes Colm Meaney from Star Trek fame, alongside Will Attenborough (Dunkirk), Phyllis Logan (Downton Abbey), Grace Nettle (War of the Worlds), and Sophia McIntosh (The Cul De Sac).
Shark-themed horror films have consistently captured the attention of enthusiasts. "Meg 2: The Trench" recently made a significant impact on Netflix, garnering substantial viewership after its 2023 theatrical release. Additionally, The Daily Jaws recently reported that Richard Dreyfuss, renowned for his role in "Jaws," will be part of the cast in the upcoming shark horror film "Into the Deep," which also features Halloween's Scout Taylor-Compton.
Mark your calendars, as "No Way Up" is set to make waves in theaters and VOD outlets on February 16, 2024.
