Jaws IMAX trailer delivers anticipation of bigger bites
IMAX have released a new trailer heralding the coming of Steven Spielberg’s Jaws to IMAX and Real D 3D on September 2, and it’s pretty good stuff.
We defy any Jaws fan to not watch it and get goosebumps, the modern-day trailer showcasing just how effective and seminal the shark thriller still is almost 50 years since it first swam onto screens.
Even as a trailer it wipes the ocean floor with those other shark films that have swum onto screens this year, The Requin, Maneater, The Reef: Stalked, Shark Bait and Blood In The Water. Jaws is still the apex shark film predator, and this trailer doesn’t let you forget it.
There have been Jaws re-release trailers previously, but this one just seems to have some extra bite and excitement, which just make you want to see the film you have seen hundreds of times before and can quote backwards even more. It really does leave you smiling like a son-of-a-bitch.
None of us will have seen it in IMAX, so it really will be a whole new experience to see Jaws – the great white shark, Chief Brody, Quint, Hooper and Mayor Vaughn -in a way that no one ever imagined that we would.
The trailer makes extensive use of that John Williams score – you’d be mad not to - and key iconic scenes, such as the opening attack on Chrissie Watkins, the attack on Alex Kintner and the crowd-pleasing “You’re gonna need a bigger boat” line from Chief Brody (Roy Scheider).
Dean Newman, head of content at The Daily Jaws, the world’s number one Jaws fan site, said: “The trailer is like welcoming an old friend, and just makes you hungry for more. It showcases how the talents of the cast and crew – and a little bit of luck – made the greatest film of all time.
And now we’re gonna get to see it on an even bigger screen for the very first time. Jaws is like a fine wine – red, and you might want to let it breathe a little – that only gets better with age. And seeing it on IMAX will be like a miracle of cinematic evolution.”
See the head, the tale, the whole damn Jaws on IMAX cinema screens from September 2 in the US.
