Jaws goes K-pop

K-pop group BAE173 have released a hip-hop inspired song called Jaws. It has no link to the Steven Spielberg shark classic, but with such an iconic song title that hasn’t stopped the group donning shark heads to promote the tune.

The dance moves, as they wave around their city hands, put Hoagie to shame, even though on first viewing you may feel like you’ve been hitting Quint’s pretty good stuff a little too much. Dances with sharks, anyone?

Of course, they aren’t the first people to release something shark or Jaws related as music. Baby Shark (sorry, we know) is the first song to amass 10 billion views on YouTube.

And then in the wake of the release of Jaws there was Mr Jaws by Dickie Goodman. Well, I say song, it’s more of a fake interview with um Mr Jaws, Brody, Hooper and Quint, with answers given in the form of song samples from 1975.

Think Jive Bunny meets The Barron Knights but less so. Probably hilarious if you were a kid, probably. Not that I’d like to prove that and get my name into the National Geographic or anything.

Clearly 1975 really was the year of the shark. Even that song generated a sequel upon the release of Jaws 2…Mrs Jaws. Sadly, some Damn Shark’s Mother did not follow in 1983.

And then there was the totally funked up version of the Jaws theme by Lalo Schifrin, the man who gave us the music for Bullit and Mission: Impossible. And let’s not forget Fergal Sharkey.

Back to BAE173, not a bad record for this vicinity? Judge for yourself here.
