THE JAWS STARS WHO RETURNED IN JAWS THE REVENGE
We all know that Jaws the Revenge was headlined by Lorraine Gary, returning as Ellen Brody, and we got a framed photo of Chief Brody (Roy Scheider) and his appearance in several sepia flashbacks
But, if you look a little closer there are brief appearances by Amity Island favourites who were in both Jaws and Jaws 2.
After the tragic death of (spoiler alert) Sean Brody, Ellen is being comforted by two friends. If those women look familiar, that's because they are.
One knows exactly how Ellen Brody is feeling, and she has lost a child herself, many years ago. And we saw it, and her grief that followed, as it is Mrs Kintner whose son Alex died on the packed beach on his yellow inflatable.
Joining he is Mrs Taft, who seems to have mellowed in age. It’s wonderful to see these two islanders make a brief but poignant return to the Jaws franchise.
And although Mrs Taft was resolute that Ellen would never become an islander, perhaps this shows that - perhaps since the heart attack and death of Martin Brody prior to the events of the film - that she has actually been accepted as a beloved and respected islander.
It's fitting that it is both Mrs Kintner and Mrs Taft as they were both the very polar opposites of Island women, and that the two actresses who play the roles were born just days apart from one another.
Lee Fierro, who played Mrs Kintner, was born on February 13, 1929, whilst Fritzi Jane Courtney was born on February 15, 1923.
A third Jaws and Jaws 2 alumnus makes a fleeting return in Jaws the Revenge, this time at the funeral of Sean Brody.
Cyprian R. Dube was the white-haired Mr Posner in Jaws, who Mayor Vaughn convinced to go in the water with his family. He was Selectman Posner in Jaws 2 and was sat at the table when Chief Brody proclaimed he wasn’t going through that hell again.
And then, in Revenge, he made it to Mayor of Amity. It was set to be a role played yet again by Murray Hamilton, but sadly the Mayor Vaughn actor passed away before filming could begin.
However, you feel about Jaws the Revenge, it is great to see the filmmakers return to Amity Island and bring a few of the original film's familiar faces back into the fold.
It just goes to show that there was at least some care and attention to detail when it came to the final chapter of the Jaws saga.
