CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE JOHN WILLIAMS EXPERTS KIND
On Thursday 10 February, King Street Cinema in Ipswich will be celebrating John Williams' 90th birthday week with a special screening of the science-fiction classic Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
The 4K Director's Edition of the film is preceded by an exclusive video introduction with The Legacy Of John Williams' editor, Maurizio Caschetto, Head Contributor, Tim Burden and acclaimed soundtrack producer, Mike Matessino.
This exclusive video introduction also includes a rare performance with Williams conducting his Suite from Close Encounters of the Third Kind at his celebrated concert in Vienna in 2020, where he conducted the Vienna Philharmoniker in a selection of some of his most famous scores.
Maurizio, a television and video industry professional with over 20 years experience, is Founder, Editor-In-Chief and Content Producer of The Legacy of John Williams. The associated podcast show was launched in February 2019, with Maurizio writing, producing and editing all episodes.
Tim is Head Contributor of The Legacy of John Williams, as well as co-host and co-producer on several episodes of the podcast and video events. He's also a Member of the International Film Music Critics Association, Board Member of the Film Music Foundation, regular contributor to Film Score Monthly Online and guest host of Cinematic Sound Radio.
Mike is a writer, film historian and preservationist, with particular emphasis on the restoration of classic film music. An accomplished music mixer and editor, he has produced and, or edited, mixed and mastered music for hundreds of soundtrack projects spanning nine decades, including the Star Wars trilogy, the first three Harry Potter films, Superman, Home Alone and Empire of the Sun.
So, what better way to experience Close Encounters, which turns 45 this year, than with an introduction of such fans of the music of John Williams?
Close Encounters was Steven Spielberg's follow up to Jaws, which saw him reunite with several cast and crew from the shark thriller, this includes a returning Richard Dreyfuss, Joe Alves on production designer duties and John Williams as composer.
Williams is arguably the world's most famous film composer, and has won five Academy Awards, seven BAFTA awards, four Golden Globes and 25 Grammys.
Close Encounters of the Third Kind lost out at the Academy Awards in 1978, the Oscar going instead to another science-fiction spectacular released in 1977, by the name of Star Wars, music by none other than John Williams.
