Shark horror as food vlogger fined for eating protected JAWS species

In a shocking act that gives a whole new meaning to the Matt Hooper JAWS line of “Is anyone eating this?”, a Chinese food vlogger has been fined 125,000 yuan ($18,500 USD) after posting a video of her buying and eating a great white shark.

This woman, swallowed it whole and it’s all on video!  One clip  in the extreme eating video showing her cooking some of it over an open fire, before the dead shark was sautéed in a wok, and then finally eating the dish.

The great white shark is a  protected species in China, under the Wild Animal Protection Law, which stops the transportation, selling and buying of the fish that features in the film JAWS, and has seen dwindling numbers worldwide.

The vlogger, known as Tizi in her videos, was shown going to a shop, picking a 6.6 foot great white, posing with it on the floor, cooking and finally eating the endangered majestic fish.

It was posted on the social media sites Douyin and Kuaishou, where thankfully it got a huge backlash from appalled viewers, which resulted in the subsequent investigation and fine.

It's great to see China take a stand on this abhorrent activity, highlighting to the rest of the world that attitudes are changing and that protecting the great white means just that.
