Christmas advert pays homage to Jaws

The last thing you'd expect in a Christmas advert is a reference to Steven Spielberg's Jaws (1975) but that's exactly what you get in this year's yuletide offering from Argos.

The advert for the UK store features a large group of people running through a housing estate, when the occupants of a house they are running towards for Christmas dinner realise they haven't got enough dishes.

The man looks at the advancing crowd and then at the Argos website and exclaims, "we're gonna need a bigger bowl."

Clearly the hungry hoard are heading there for their noon feeding.

For the UK though Jaws was part of Christmas, when it was first released on the big screen as it was first shown on the big screen on Boxing Day 1975, the day after Christmas Day. That's over a full six months after it first surfaced in the US!

And let's not forget that Jaws the Revenge (1987) was a Christmas film a whole year before Bruce Willis was running around in his vest and with no shoes on in Die Hard (1988).
