Jaws In Concert: Interview With Conductor Ben Palmer

If you love Jaws you may have have been one of the lucky thousands of people to see it live in concert as it has toured England over the last couple of weeks.

That’s been performed by the Czech National Philharmonic Orchestra, at its helm - giving Matt Hooper a run for his money in the beard stakes - has been Ben Palmer, one of Europe's foremost specialists in conducting live to film, leading more than 50 film-with-orchestra performances this year.

Prior to Jaws in Concert in Southend-on-Sea, our Chief Writer, Dean Newman, had an exclusive The Daily Jaws interview with him giving a fascinating insight into bringing the music to Jaws and other Spielberg classics to life, chatting about everything from the live film conducting experience to his favourite death in Jaws.

Answer that last question and you could be in with a chance of winning a mini-Jaws in Concert poster signed by Ben. Catch the full interview below.

Ben’s also conducted the German premiere of Casino Royale, and screenings of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Home Alone, and Brassed Off, throughout Europe and the UK, in venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, Bridgewater Hall, and Symphony Hall Birmingham.

His impressive repertoire includes Psycho, Casablanca, Charlie Chaplin's The Gold Rush, The Immigrant, Easy Street and The Cure, the premiere of Neil Brand's score for Hitchcock's The Lodger, as well as Fritz Lang's Metropolis.

And he’s also been conducting that other John Williams and Steven Spielberg favourite, Raiders of the Lost Ark. He’s got further toothsome characters to conduct for later in the year with Jurassic Park.

Back to that signed Jaws poster giveaway. For your chance to win just post your answer to the question, which is your favourite death in Jaws as a reply to us across The Daily Jaws pages on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram and use the hashtags #jawsinconcert and #TheDailyJaws. Only entries using both hashtags will be eligible for entry.

Entries to the giveaway close on Monday 16th April, good luck!
