The Dark Heart of Jaws

Jaws is a stunning example of cinematic craft and it’s a clear manifestation of a young filmmaker trying out everything he can and taking risks in order to create something special. There are scares aplenty throughout the story and the tension once the trio get out on to open water in search of the shark is unbearable. Spielberg fills Jaws with sophistication to flesh out the characters and the setting, but he’s not afraid to pull out the oldest trick in the book when the story demands it.

Quint’s USS Indianapolis Found

With the discovery of the final resting place of the USS Indianapolis perhaps that is an end to the story that began over 70 years ago and was cemented in cinematic history in Jaws.

Or perhaps, in this world of origin stories, it may reignite interest in the origin of Quint. For me, we know enough about him and I want to keep the rest of him a mystery.

Shark Movie Review: 47 Metres Down

Never fully away from the public’s consciousness, every shark film since, has owed a huge amount to Jaws, but of course we are now living in an age where perhaps sharks are not the feared beast they were in the summer of 1975. So often the laughing stock of cinema, shark movies have settled comfortably in the realm of B-movie fodder, with straight-to-SyFy shark movies being the most commonplace. However, the aforementioned The Shallows restored some credibility to the genre, and proved it could still be a draw on the big screen.

Jaws The Revenge aka 'Jaws Poor'

The Revenge is what most fans and film critics of the original would like to have on this third and (to date) final sequel to Jaws which was the final theatrical film directed by Joseph Sargent, perhaps most famous for The Taking of Pelham One Two Three, which featured a pre-Jaws Robert Shaw on bad guy duties. Whilst Revenge is series cannon most would probably like to see it fired out of one.
